The Perfect Fall Breakfast, Apple French Toast

Last weekend I got together with my friends for brunch and we each made a dish. I decided to make a french toast with caramelized apples on top.

This dish is super easy and sure to impress any brunch party. Looks best assembled on a board instead of your classic oven-safe dish.

What you'll need:

INGREDIENTS

6 large eggs1

1/2 cups heavy cream

half-and-half or milk

2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of ground nutmeg

Pinch of salt

6 slices (1-inch-thick) bread, preferably day-old brioche

4 tablespoons salted butter

Pure maple syrup, for serving (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1. Whisk together eggs, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.

2. Place bread in a shallow baking dish large enough to hold bread slices in a single layer. Pour egg mixture over bread; soak 10 minutes. Turn slices over; soak until soaked through, about 10 minutes more.

3. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Place a wire rack on a baking sheet, and set aside. Heat 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry half the bread slices until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to wire rack; place in oven while cooking remaining bread. Wipe skillet, and repeat with remaining butter, oil, and bread. Keep in oven until ready to serve. Serve warm with pure maple syrup, if desired.

APPLE TOPPING

4 Large Honey Crisp Apples (you can use any apples you like)

1 Table Spoon Honey

3 Tablespoons butter

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1. Finely Chop apples into small square sized bites.

2. Heat a cast-iron over medium heat and add 3 tablespoons of butter. Once melted add the apples, ground cinnamon, and honey. Cook for 10 Mins until apples soften and absorb flavor.

How To Compile on a board...

Get a long enough serving or cutting board. Rest each piece on one another like dominos with a slice of butter between each piece of toast. Pour apples over the top and drizzle honey and syrup. Finish with powdered sugar.

Enjoy!
